The West Bengal government will offer land parcels through a limited auction procedure to industry associations for the setting up of specific product-based industrial parks in the State.
“Whatever land parcel we have in our hand, we would like to offer it to the chambers of commerce and to the industry associations for the setting up of specific product-based industrial parks according to your requirement,” said Subrata Gupta, Chief Advisor to the Chief Minister, during the fourth edition of the Indo-Pacific Economic Conclave on the occasion of industry body BCCI’s 172nd Annual General Meeting.
“Instead of the government trying to develop these parks, we would like the industry associations to develop the parks, and we will facilitate them. This is one of the initiatives which the State government is taking,” Gupta said.
The government has already identified three-four land parcels which would be handed over to industry bodies through a limited auction procedure.
Proposed land policy
Commenting on the proposed land policy, likely to be unveiled in October, Gupta said the government is also considering land pooling. “In some States like Haryana and Gujarat, land pooling policy is very successful. We have to see how it would works here if it is rolled out,” he added.
Earlier this week, the government handed over around 580 acres of land for 33 industrial projects. These projects have to be completed within three years. The 33 projects entail a total investment of around ₹60,000 crore, and have the potential to generate nearly 62,000 jobs.
Around 256 acres of land was allotted to Jupiter Defence in the State’s Purulia district for a large-scale and state-of-the-art integrated defence manufacturing facility.
The government also allotted around 54.20 acres to Websol Energy System at Falta Industrial Park, located near Kolkata, for its planned greenfield solar manufacturing facility. The new facility is planned to have 4 GW of solar cell capacity and 4 GW of solar module manufacturing capacity, to be developed in two phases of 2GW each.
